CHAPTER 46
Chandini asks for donation
There was heavy rain in the city. Due to
wind and rain, half of one college building fell down.
Principal was sitting in his chair with his hands on
his head. Chandini and few other students were sitting in front of him.
Chandini said with worry, “Sir, such a huge building
has fallen. What will happen to us?”
Principal said sadly, “I am also thinking about that
only. We are lucky it fell at night and no one was hurt. There is no money in
the committee. This institute was built by great men of Gandhiji's era. We are
running it for the poor taking low fees.”
Chandini said, “Sir, we have one idea. If you agree we
will go ahead with it.”
Principal was surprised. “Yes, tell me.”
“If you give permission, we will approach big business
magnets and collect donations to rebuild the college building.”
Principal laughed happily. “I admire your spirits.
Raindrops become the ocean. Go ahead.”
Chandini and her friends collected donation. Their
list was over. They got tired. They went to see the principal.
Chandini kept the money and the receipt book in front
of the principal. “Sir, 10 lakhs. We have covered all the big businessmen.”
Principal said, “Very good. But this money is not
enough even to construct the compound wall.”
One boy said sadly, “Sir, we are already tired.”
“Leave it. You have done a great job. But I am sorry.
Next year we will have to close the diploma college.”
Chandini was shocked. “Impossible. Sir, there are 1
crore people in Mumbai. We will go to each and every house and collect money.
By the time my college is over, I will collect enough money.”
