CHAPTER 24

Prutvi is sick

At night at 11pm, Prutvi started vomiting.  

Arvind got up. He touched Prutvi’s head. “Why, Prutvi, you have fever.”

“Since afternoon, I have not been feeling well.”

“Let us go to the doctor.”

Prutvi shook his head. “Eh! We were brought up in the ashram. Just bring kashaya. I will be fine.”

Arvind went to Danalakshmi’s house and knocked. Danalakshmi opened the door.

Arvind said, “Aunty, Prutvi has fever.”

Danalakshmi was shocked. “Oh my god! He was fine in the evening.”

She came straight to Prutvi’s house. Kotari followed her.

Danalakshmi entered Prutvi’s house and approached him. She touched Prutvi’s body. It was hot. “He is having high fever. Let us go to the doctor.”

Prutvi looked at her face. “No aunty, we came from the ashram. We don’t go to any doctor. I will take kashaya. I will be fine soon.”

“You are young boys. How can you say that?”

Danalakshmi went to her house and prepared a kashaya. She brought and gave it to Prutvi. “You take this now. Tomorrow, I will get all the ingredients to prepare a very good kashaya for you.”

That night, Chandini had no sleep. She was rolling on the bed. She felt like she was floating somewhere. She remembered Prutvi waving to her. It was 3 am when she fell asleep at last.

Next day in the morning at 5 everyone was ready to go for jogging. They were waiting for Danalakshmi’s whistle. She whistled. Everyone appeared in the compound wearing jogging dress but Danalaxmi was wearing a sari. They were surprised.

Srilaxmi asked, “Aunty, why are you not wearing your jogging dress?”

“My son, Prutvi is not feeling well since yesterday night.”

Everybody was shocked.

“Till he gets well, no jogging. I must be at home for his treatment.”

She took gangi to Prutvi’s house. All followed her inside. Danalakshmi gave the gangi to Prutvi.

Srilaxmi looked at Prutvi who was lying on the bed. She said sadly, “What happened, Prutvi?”

She touched his head.

Danalakshmi said, “I came to know only at midnight.”

Saundarya said, “I will phone to the doctor. We will take him to the doctor.”

Danalakshmi became serious. “He is under my care. I am looking after him. He will not go to the doctor.”

Kotari said, “He is from the ashram. He will take only kashaya.”

“I know a very good Ayurvedic doctor. Shall I call him?” Said Tripura.

Danalakshmi became serious. “My boy is from ashram. He knows all about the herbs. He has already given me a list. I will ask my husband to get the herbs. I will prepare the kashaya by myself. You all go out now. Don’t disturb.”

All agreed and went out.
